Ivansheck Earns 100th Career Victory in Bears Win Over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass.-- Junior Annabella Farabaugh led the Bears with 21 points in a 66-59 victory over Gordon as Head Coach Alex Ivansheck earned her 100th career victory on Monday night. The Bears improve to 5-1 on the season and Gordon falls to 3-3.

Ivansheck, who is in her eighth season as the Bears head coach, has a record of 100-88 overall. In her first season in 2012-13, she led the Bears back to the NEWMAC tournament for the first time since the 2009-10 season. In the 2014-15 season, she lead the team to its second straight 19 win season as the Bears finished 19-8 overall and 12-4 in the NEWMAC advancing to the conference tournament semifinals for the first time since 2008. The team also won a school-record 12 straight games and she was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year. The 12 NEWMAC victories posted in the 2014-15 season were the most in school history.

Farabaugh went 7-17 from the field, including 4-13 from behind the arc. Sophomore Emma Puddington added 12 points with 7 rebounds, freshman Faith Butler had a team-high 11 rebounds and classmate Jacqueline Ward tallied 12 points and three assists for the Bears.

Senior Sarah Gibbs led Gordon with a double-double from 13 points and a game-high 20 rebounds. Classmate Meghan Foley had a game-high with 23 points and freshman Serianna Anderson tallied 14 points for Gordon.

The Bears opened with a 7-2 run through the first four minutes of play. Meghan Foley tied the game for the Fighting Scotts with a layup at 4:16 to make it 7-7, but the Bears answered and closed the first quarter with a 13-7 lead.

Foley brought the Fighting Scotts within two, 15-13 sinking back-to-back free throws for Gordon at 5:56 in the second quarter. The Bears answered with a 12-4 run, including back-to-back three pointers from Farabaugh and senior Zoe Riis-Fallica to give the Bears a 29-17 lead. Coast Guard held a 33-21 edge at the half.

Farabaugh scored 10 of her points in the third quarter as the Bears held on to their 46-36 lead, after being outshot, 15-14 in the third quarter.

The Fighting Scotts opened the second quarter on a 6-1 run as they trailed 48-44. Farabaugh sunk a three pointer at 3:39 in the fourth, to give the Bears a seven point cushion during the final quarter, 55-48. With two free throws made with 15 seconds remaining, Gordon trailed by five, 64-59 but the Bears made two free throws of the own by Ward to take the 66-59 final.

Coast Guard shot 22-64 (34.4%) from the field, had 38 rebounds, and 19 points from the bench. Gordon went 20-72 (27.8%) from the field, and had 43 boards.

The Bears are back in action on Sunday, December 1 at home against UMass Boston at 1 PM.
