Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard volleyball fell 3-1 to Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Bears drop to 14-6 overall while Bowdoin improves to 10-6 on the season. Coast Guard won the first set 28-26 but Bowdoin took the final three, 25-12, 25-23, and 25-23.
Sophomore Sophia Pahl led the Polar Bears with 15 kills and junior Ashley Williams added 11 digs for Bowdoin. Junior Emily King had a team-high 25 digs and freshman Ella Haugen chipped in with a team-high 21 assists.
Freshman Noelle Tursky led Coast Guard with a game-high, double-double on 17 kills and 25 assists. Sophomore Amanda Dake added 13 kills and senior Angelou Dunton had 12 kills. Junior Veronica Hine led Coast Guard with a game-high 29 digs and senior Makenna Martin added 22 assists.
In the first set, Bowdoin jumped out and held a four point lead,9-5. After trailing but one, 16-15, Coast Guard used a three-point run to take a 19-16 lead. Bowdoin took the lead to match-point, 24-23 but a kill by Tursky, gave the Bears their first set victory, 28-26.
In the second set, the Bears were down 4-2 but used a four point run to take a 6-4 lead. Bowdoin took a 12-10 lead and used a seven-point run to take a 19-10 to lead the Polar Bears to a 25-12 victory in the second set.
With the scored tied 4-4 in the third set, Coast Guard used a three-point run to take a 7-4 lead. Bowdoin used a five-point run to take a 15-11 lead. Coast Guard went on a three-point run to tie the match, 17-17. The Polar Bears contered with a four-point run to extend their lead 21-17. Bowdoin had a 24-21 lead but the Bears cut the deficit 24-23, before a kill by sophomore Ella Haugen gave the Polar Bears a 25-23 win.
Coast Guard used a five-point run to take a 13-10 lead in the fourth set. The Bears held a three-point lead for the majority of the fourth set but with a 22-18 lead, Bowdoin used a four-point run to tie it 22-22. With a kill by sophomore Maddie James, Coast Guard took a 23-22 lead. Bowdoin scored the next three points to take the fourth set, 25-23 and win the match, 3-1.
Coast Guard is back in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday, October 15 at home at 7:00 PM.
