Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – Angelou Dunton had a match-high 10 kills to go with 11 digs leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 win over Salve Regina in a non-conference game.
The Bears won by scores of 29-27, 25-22, 25-20 to improve to 14-5 on the season while Salve drops to 6-12 on the season.
Bridget Boyle hit .421 and added nine kills, Amanda Dake had eight kills and nine digs while Noelle Tursky led the way with 25 digs to go with her seven kills, eight digs and match-high four aces. Mary Sweet added seven kills and a match-high four blocks.
Salve scored seven straight points to take an 11-6 edge in the opening set, the Bears would later respond scoring five straight to even the score 18-18. The Seahawks led 24-22 before the Bears fought off a pair of set points with a kill by Maddie James and a service ace by Heather Miller to tie it 24-24.
The Seahawks would have three more set points only to see Coast Guard answer each time, the final two on kills by Boyle. Coast Guard would score the final three points to win 29-27.
In the second, the Bears jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Coast Guard would run off six straight to take a 23-16 lead and the Bears led 24-18 before Salve fought off four straight set points before a kill by Sweet gave the Bears the 25-22 win.
The third set was even at 14 before the Bears scored eight straight with Tursky having four service aces in the run taking a 22-14 lead. Salve would fight off four straight match points before Dake ended the match with a kill for the 25-20 win.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Bowdoin at 1:00.
