Bears Win Home Regular Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard scored a program record 23 goals as they took down Emerson 23-5 on senior night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Wednesday.

With the win, the Bears improve to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference while the Lions fall to 5-10 on the season and 0-6 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Anthony Wyler had a game high seven points with three goals and four assists. Freshman Will Iorio tallied five points with three goals and two assists while sophomore Riley McNulty finished with three goals and one assist. Junior Benner Geurtsen had two goals and one assist while seniors Matt Huemme and TJ Varley combined for two goals and one assist in their final regular season home game of their career.

Freshman Tim Doyle Emerson with two goals while junior Cameron Radenberg tallied a goal and an assist. Freshman Chandler Day and junior Jared Brush rounded out the scoring for the Lions.

Emerson took an early lead on a Brush goal to start the game with 11:26 remaining in the first quarter. 

Coast Guard answered with eight straight goals to end the opening period as the Bears outscored the Lions 15-4 the rest of the way for their program record 12thwin this season.

Junior Trey Johnson (11-3) played the majority of the first half making five saves and allowing two goals. Sophomore Charles McAllister and freshman Josh Ordonez teamed up for the rest of the game combining to allow three goals and make six saves.

Juniors Colin Cashin and Nicholas Wittrock each won seven face-offs while Cashin had five groundballs and Wittrock had three. Emerson was led by sophomore Austin DiPietro who won a game high 16 face-offs and picked up a game high 11 ground balls.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday April 28th, when they hit the road to take on the Babson Beavers as the Bears continue to fight for the overall one seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. Opening face-off is noon.
