Bears Knock Off Nichols

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard swept the doubles and won five of six singles matches as the Bears beat Nichols 8-1 in a non-conference match.

The Bears improve to 7-4 overall while Nichols drops just its third match of the season as the Bison drop to 16-3 on the year.

Tom Hackett and Jack Phillips were 8-3 winners at #1 doubles, Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing registered a 9-8 win at #2 doubles while Mike Melampy and Adam Bahney won 8-3 at #3 doubles for the Bears.

Four of the six singles matches went three sets with Arthur Wicke and Kyle Fager both winning in straight sets. Wicke was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at #4 singles while Fager won 6-1, 6-4 at #5 singles for the Bears.

Hackett won 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at #1 singles, John Hu was a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 winner at #2 singles while Lansing won 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 at #6 singles for Coast Guard.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they host Emerson in a NEWMAC match at 3:30.
