The U.S. Coast Guard Academy tennis team concluded their fall action on Saturday with exhibition play at the Springfield Invitational, hosted by Springfield College.
Coast Guard battled Colby-Sawyer College and Nichols College.
Logan Kwon (University Place, Wash.) &
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) were the sole Bears pairing to win doubles matches on the day, picking up a 7-4 victory against Chargers duo
Alexander Norris &
Max Biederman at #4 before moving up to defeat the Bison's
Andrew Emmel & Joshua Zenczak by a 6-2 margin at #3.
Team ace
Ben Bonneto (Bend, Oreg.) was joined by
Konnor Eslinger (St. Charles, Mo.) as the only Bears to win both of their singles matches. Bonetto defeated Colby-Sawyer's top product
Ashton Meuse with scores of 6-3, 6-2 before picking up a pair of 6-4 set victories against Nichols'
Nikolas Bertrams; Eslinger defeated
Jacob Riis of the Chargers by 7-6, 6-2 decisions at #4 before prevailing over Emmel at #4 in a three-set match with scores of 7-6, 2-6, 10-3.
Also picking up a singles win was
Benjamin Carlander (Monument, Colo.), who defeated Bison
William Bergendahl at #5 with a pair of 6-1 set victories.
Bears men's tennis will be back in the spring.
