BABSON PARK, Mass.-- Coast Guard women's basketball fell to Babson, 65-54 on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Staake Gymnasium. The Bears are now 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard freshman Kyra Hartman led the Bears with a game-high 18 points, going 8-15 from the field, 1-3 from behind the arc, and 1-2 from the free throw line. Julia Guerrero chipped in with eight points and senior Micaela Martinelli led the Bears defensively with seven rebounds.

Babson held the lead from the first quarter, opening the game on a 8-2 run. Coast Guard scored the next five points to bring themselves within one. Hartman made a layup and a free-throw to finish the quarter with the Bears trailing 12-10.

Sophomore Annabella Farabaugh scored the opening basket of the second quarter to tie the game 12-12. The Beavers countered by going on a 8-2 run to extend the lead 20-14. Junior Breanna Wood and Guerrero had two layups each in the final minutes of the quarter as the Bears trailed 27-24 to finish the half.

Hartman opened the third quarter with a layup to bring the Bears within one, 27-26. Babson powered through the third quarter and outshot the Bears, 21-9 to make it 48-33 with one quarter remaining.

Coast Guard outshot Babson in the final quarter, 21-17 but the Beavers held on to their lead to keep the 65-54 final.

The Bears shot 22-60 (36.7%) from the field and 8-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line. While Babson shot 25-53 (47.2%) from the field and went 12-21 (57.1%) with free throws.

Coast Guard will play again on Saturday, December 30 at 2:00 PM in non-conference action when they travel to William Peace.
