Martin Registers 2,000th Assist as Bears Secure NEWMAC Tournament Spot

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Freshman Amanda Dake had a match-high 14 kills go to with a team-high 14 digs and junior Makenna Martin registered her 2,000 career assists as Coast Guard clinched a spot in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament with a 3-1 win over Smith.

Coast Guard, which will be making its 21st consecutive trip to the NEWMAC tournament, won by set scores of 26-24, 25-17, 25-27, 25-13 to improve to 16-8 overall and 4-5 in the NEWMAC while Smith drops to 3-17 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

Martin had a match-high 39 assists to become the sixth player in Coast Guard history to surpass 2,000 career assists. Sophomore Bridget Boyle hit .400 with seven kills and classmate Veronica Hine added 14 digs in the win for the Bears

The Bears are back in action on Thursday night when they host Conn. College for New London bragging rights at 7:00.
