Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Zoe Riis-Fallica scored a career high 16 points Coast Guard won its season-best third straight, topping Clark 66-58 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
With the win Coast Guard improves to 6-13 overall and 4-7 in conference play while the Cougars fall to 12-8 on the season and 5-7 in NEWMAC action.
Riis-Fallica knocked down 4-6 from beyond the arc for 12 of her game high 16 points and added two assists and two rebounds. Junior Gill Gerton scored in double figures for the sixth game in a row and notched her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. She grabbed the 500th rebound of her career and finished the night with 502 career rebounds. Sophomore Micaela Martinelli added 10 with three rebounds and a block while freshman Breanna Wood added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Aretha Sullivan led Clark with 13 points while Sam O'Gara had 10 points, seven assists and four steals. Ezemma Ogechi recorded a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and one block.
Coast Guard shot 39.6 percent (21-53) from the floor in the win while making 6 of 18 from 3-point range. Clark was 19 of 56 (33.9 percent) and made 5 of 11 from beyond the arc.
Neither team led by more than three points in the opening quarter as the Bears led 13-10 before the Cougars scored the final five points and led 15-13 after one.
Freshman Laura Irish made a pair of free throws with 1:10 left in the half as Coast Guard took its largest lead to that point 32-28 into halftime.
Clark trailed 42-41 with 2:46 left in the third quarter before Coast Guard ran off seven straight pushing the lead to 49-41 on pair of free throws by Gerton with 1:20 left in quarter. The Bears led 49-43 after three.
Sophomore Johanna Moolenaar made a pair of free throws with 7:15 left to give the Bears a 54-45 lead before the Cougars ran off six straight making the scored 54-51 with 5:50 left.
Clark cut the deficit to 56-55 on a pair of free throws by Ogechi Ezemma with 3:11 left.
Martinelli had a basket with 2:45 left before Gerton's hoop with 1:04 gave the Bears a 60-55 lead.
The Bears would go a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 44 seconds, four by Martinelli and two by Gerton to ice the game.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when they host WPI in a NEWMAC game at 2:00.
