Box Score NORTHAMPTON, MASS.--- Junior Michelle McGill had a career-high nine aces and added a match-high ten digs as Coast Guard hit a season-high .362 and won its third straight beating Smith 3-0 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.
The Bears won by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 25-13 to improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Smith drops to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Freshman Angelou Dunton, junior Emma Saunders and senior Susan West each had seven kills to lead the Bears. Freshman Makenna Martin had a match-high 29 assists while Dunton added seven digs and three aces in the win.
In the first set, Coast Guard scored six straight to take an 18-8 lead and won the opener 25-14.
The Bears led 17-15 in the second set before scoring eight of the final nine points including the final six straight for the 25-16 win.
The third set was tied 6-6 before Coast Guard ran off five straight for an 11-6 lead. Smith would score four of the next five cutting the deficit to 12-10. The Pioneers trailed 15-13 before with McGill serving the Bears scored the final ten points to close out the match.
