Second Half Run Leads Clark Past Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Aretha Sullivan had 17 of her game-high 24 points in the third quarter and she finished with a double-double adding a team-high 11 rebounds leading Clark to a 64-52 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Clark led the Bears 44-40 with 1:04 left in the third quarter before the Cougars would score 17 straight points pushing the lead to 61-40 with 3:33 left in the game.

Coast Guard freshman Zoe Riis-Fallica hit a 3-pointer with 1:04 left in the third, but the Bears would go without a field goal until a basket by junior Gill Gerton with 1:58 left in the game.

Clark improves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Sam O'Gara added 16 points and a game-high eight assists in the win while sophomore Ogechi Ezemma finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars.

Gerton led the Bears with 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, her third double-double of the season. Sophomore Micaela Martinelli added a career-high 14 points for the Bears.

Clark started quick racing out to a 17-2 with 5:41 left in the first quarter before the Bears outscored the Cougars 9-3 the rest of the quarter to trail 20-11 after one.

Clark led 24-11 with seven minutes left in the first half, but the Bears end the half on a 14-4 run and trailed 28-25 at the half.

Sullivan would score the first seven points of the second half as Clark pushed the lead to 35-35 with 7:31 left in the third quarter and scored the final six points of the quarter to start the 17-0 run and led 50-40 after three quarters.

The Cougars put the game away scoring the first 11 points of the fourth quarter.

Clark shot 40 percent from the floor in the win (24-60) and hit six of 20 from behind the arc. Coast Guard shot a season-low 26.6 percent (17 of 64) making five of 30 from 3-point range.

Coast Guard is off until after Christmas when the Bears travel to DePauw in Indiana to take part in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic on Dec. 29th and 31st.
