Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Rachel McCarron had a game-high 18 points and host UMass Dartmouth used a 20-6 run to close the game and beat Coast Guard 76-64 in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Championship Game.
Junior Gill Gerton, who was named to the All-tournament team, and sophomore Jayla Joyner each had 12 points to lead Coast Guard while freshman Laura Irish had a career-high 10 points and seven rebounds for the Bears. Junior Jill Bray had a game-high six assists to go with her seven points.
Coast Guard took a 58-56 lead on an old fashion 3-point play by freshman Breanna Wood with 7:31 left before the Corsairs used an 11-2 run taking a 67-60 lead with 4:03 left.
The Bears, who trailed 41-34 at halftime, saw the Corsairs score the first five points of the second half to open their largest lead of the game 46-34 with 8:55 left in the third quarter.
Coast Guard would respond with a 19-2 spurt capped on a 3-pointer by Jill Bray with 2:01 left as the Bears led 53-48. Coast Guard led 55-54 after three quarters.
UMass Dartmouth shot 48.4 percent (31-64) including 4 of 13 from 3-point range in the win as they improved to 3-0 on the season.
Coast Guard was 26 of 59 from the floor (44.1 percent) connecting on 6 of 17 from behind the arc. The held a slight 38-35 edge in rebounding, but turned the ball over 20 times.
The Bears are back in action on Nov. 27th at Catholic for a 1:00 tip.
