Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bears went to 2-0 on the day topping Anna Maria 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18) and Nichols 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-15) in nonconference action.
With the two wins Coast Guard improves to 13-9 on the season. The AMCATS are now 14-10 on the year while the Bison fall to 6-14.
Freshman Angelou Dunton had a 15 kills in the first match while contributing 16 digs. Classmate Makenna Martin had a combined 39 assists while sophomore Hailye Reynolds added 23 assists and 12 digs against Anna Maria. Michelle McGill led the team with 20 digs on the day. She is now 35 digs away from entering the top ten for career digs at the Academy. Senior Susan West, junior Madison Scott and freshman Alexi Deane had 10, 16 and 16 kills respectively, with 13 digs from West. Freshman Ali Gates had 11 digs in the second match while and junior Emma Saunders had eight kills. Freshman Kassidy Whitney had a career high 11 assists.
In the first match against Anna Maria, the two teams split the first two sets. In the third set the AMCATS held a one point advantage until the Bears went on a 7-2 run for a 20-16 lead on their way to a 25-21 win. Junior Madison Scott and Reynolds had two kills over this stretch.
Coast Guard closed the first match of the day out with again pulling away at 14-14 finishing the fourth set on 11-4 run for the teams first victory of the day. The Bears hit .286 as a team in the final set with 14 kills and only 4 errors.
In the second match the Bears had a combined seven totals errors, hit .461 as a team and never looked back winning in straight sets, for their 13th win of the year.
Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, October 18th, when they travel to Boston, Massachusetts to play NEWMAC foe Emerson. Match time is 7:00.
