KINGS POINT, N.Y.-- Merchant Marine snapped a 12-match losing streak in the series against Coast Guard with a 3-0 win over the Bears.

Merchant Marine won by game scores of 28-26, 25-18, 25-20 to improve to 5-1 on the season while the Bears suffered their first loss of the year dropping to 4-1.

Ashley Dumont led the Bears with 12 kills while Summer Adams had a team-high 16 digs in the loss. Maggie Hine led Coast Guard with 35 assists.

" I thought both teams played well today but at critical times they made plays and we didn't," said Coast Guard head coach Mike Bynon. "Offensively they scored points when they needed to and we had trouble finishing points at crucial times in the match. I give lots of credit to MMA, they played great and got the best of us today."

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday night when they open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Springfield at 7 p.m.
