Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Pride scored the first ten goals of the game on their way to a 17-1 victory over the Bears in NEWMAC competition.
Senior Ruby Surgent scored Coast Guard's (3-6, 0-3) only goal of the game in the second half. It was Surgent's 14th goal of the season which is second on the team. The Bears were only able to muster four shots in the game.
Springfield (9-2, 3-0), who is ranked 20th in the nation in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) poll, were led by senior Michelle Dorsey and junior Bianca Raniolo. Dorsey had six goals while Raniolo added four of her own. Dorsey leads the NEWMAC with 38 goals on the season.
It was all the Pride from the get go as they rattled off ten straight goals in the first half taking a 10-0 lead into the second half.
Surgent would come out in the second half and score the first goal of the period to end the drought, but it would be all the Bears could manage as Springfield would score seven more goals giving them a 17-1 victory.
Freshman Angel Fay made six saves on 23 shots faced bringing her record to 3-6 on the season. Fay is third in the conference with 81 saves on the season.
Sophomore Gabriella Anderson would start in goal for the Pride facing zero shots. Junior Carley Elkin relieved Anderson in the second half making one save on two shots faced. Anderson has the best goals against average in the conference with a 6.46, second best save percentage (53.9), and has allowed the third least goals in the NEWMAC with 53. Anderson is 9-2 on the season.
Coast Guard returns to action on Saturday April, 4th when they host Emerson at 1:00. It will be the Bears senior day.
