Engineers Beat Bears

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Quinn Hathcock had a career high two goals but it was not enough as MIT went on to beat Coast Guard 14-6 in the Bears first NEWMAC game.

Junior Robert McKenna had two goals for the Bears as well (1-6, 0-1) while juniors Justin Huemme and Trent Moon each added a goal of their own.

Sophomore Michael Traub had a game high three goals and one assist for the Engineers (6-2, 1-0). Senior Chris Cook scored two goals and added one assist while freshmen Mitch Turley and Graham Davis and junior Paul Orrson all had two goals. Sophomore Harris Stolzenberg had a goal and game high four assists.

The Engineers would score two early goals but after a MIT penalty Moon would score a man up goal with 10:35 on the clock. 

Orrson, Turley, and Traub would all score a goal to end the quarter for the Engineers while Hathcock scored the Bears final goal of the period giving MIT a 5-2 lead.

It would be a defensive second quarter as both teams would combine for three goals making the  half time score 7-3. Junior Jeff Bors would find McKenna for Coast Guard's only goal of the quarter.

The second half would have the same score as the first as the Engineers would score the first three goals of the third quarter on their was to seven second half goals. Huemme, Hathcock, and McKenna had the Bears three goals of the half.

Freshman Kurt Caminske registered his first career start making 14 saves on 28 shots bringing his record to 0-1 on the season.

Junior Eric Bartell made eight saves on 14 shots faced bringing his record to 6-2 on the season. Bartell is tied for the league lead with six wins on the season.

Senior Nick Chicoine had a strong game in the face off circle winning 18-21 and collected a game high 11 ground balls. Chicoine lead the conference with 52 ground balls and is third in face offs win with 90.  As a team the Bears were able to hold an advantage over MIT 36-22. 

Coast Guard returns to action on Saturday April, 4th for their second NEWMAC game of the season as they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to play Clark. Game time is 4:00 PM.
