CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Maya Ramachandran had 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half and MIT used a 17-5 second half run to beat Coast Guard 63-53 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT improves to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference while the Bears drop to 7-7 on the season and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.

Sabrina Drammis finished with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while Mari Kordell had 13 points in the win for MIT.

Junior Meghan Fornaro led Coast Guard with 14 points (11 in the first half) while seniors Alexi Howland and Leigha Steinbeck along with freshman Gill Gerton (8 rebounds) each had nine points for the Bears. Howland had a team-high nine rebounds.

Coast Guard led 10-6 before MIT used a 9-0 run to take a 15-10 lead with 12:06 left in the first half.

MIT pushed its lead to 12, 24-12 with 7:27 left in the half before the Bears scored eight straight, five by Fornaro to make the scored 24-20 with 5:13 left in the opening half.

The Engineers led 29-23 with 4:18 left in the half before the Bears scored the final ten points of the first half to take a 33-29 into the break.

Junior Torie Sutherland hit a 3-pointer to give the Bears a 36-33 lead with 18:37 left in the game before MIT went on a 17-5 run over the next 11 and a half minutes to take a 50-41 lead with 7:07 left. MIT never let the Bears get closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Coast Guard shot 34 percent from the floor (18-53) while making 5 of 13 from behind the arc while MIT finished 23 of 53 from the field and 2 of 9 from 3-point range (22 percent).

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they host WPI in a NEWMAC game at 7 p.m.
