Coast Guard Wins Battle of the Bears

NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Coast Guard men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter of play and held on for a 13-8 victory over Bridgewater State on Sunday. The victory, Coast Guard's third in a row, moves them to .500 for the first time during the 2014 season.

Junior Pat Dreiss led the home-standing Coast Guard Bears with four goals on the afternoon while seniors Stuart Carley (2 G, 1 A) and Eric Schmid (1 G, 2 A) each tallied three points in the contest.

Freshman Ryan Carpenter stopped eight of the 12 shots he faced in goal to allow Coast Guard to build a 12-4 lead headed into the final quarter of play.

Junior Nick Chicoine was an impressive 19-for-21 (90.5%) on face-offs.

Coast Guard will return to action on Friday, April 11th when they travel to take on New Haven at 7:00 pm.
