Bears Fall in Double Overtime

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/4/11)--Senior Mary Cooke scored with 7:57 left in the second overtime as Mount Holyoke snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

The Lyons improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play while Coast Guard extends its winless streak to four and drops to 4-5-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.

Freshman Hannah Yee scored a pair of headers off corner kicks in the 16th and 23rd minutes to give the Lyons a 2-0 lead. Junior Mallory Phaneuf assisted on both Yee goals for Mount Holyoke.

Coast Guard cut the deficit in half when freshman Lindsay Duplessis scored just 1:11 later with senior Brittany Fifer assisting.

The Bears tied the game on a goal by sophomore Jill Kelly in the 31st minute with senior Shannah Shelton adding her school-record tying 15th assist of her career. Shelton tied the mark of 15 held by Olivia Grant (2000-'03).

Freshman Mackenzie Randall made 15 saves to record her first collegiate win in goal for the Lyons.

Senior Mary Mills made seven saves in the loss for the Bears.

Coast Guard outshot Mount Holyoke 23-12.
