NEW LONDON, Conn. --
Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard men's soccer team hosted Merchant Marine for their home opener. This hard-fought contest ended in a scoreless draw.
The draw keeps the 2026-27 USAA Superintendent's Trophy standings where they were at the start of the day, with Coast Guard leading by one. The year long standings can be followed

The Bears picked up their first draw of the season, and their record is now 2-2-1. The Mariners picked up their third draw of the year and are now 1-2-3. Merchant Marine will open up Skyline play on Wednesday September 16th at home vs Mount St. Vincent.
This match kicked off at noon EST with both sides looking to break through the other's defense. Neither team could really take control over the other, as this was a back-and-forth game.Â
The rivalry between these two schools definitely showed as there were 11 total fouls in the first half alone, and 17 in the second half. The game remained a deadlock as both sides got plenty of opportunities, however both keepers stood tall and kept every shot out of the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Samuel Linkous (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) kept a clean sheet with five saves in the afternoon, despite the Mariners recording 12 shots.
Coast Guard men's soccer have a week off before they are back at home next Saturday, September 19th, where they will host Clark University to start NEWMAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon EST.
