Cambridge, Mass. --
The Coast Guard Academy men's swim team finished day three still in second place with 670 points.
In one of the first events of the night cap,
AJ Buzzelli(Acworth, GA)Â and
Jordan Jansen(Tampa, FL) competed in the 400 IM finals, with Bezzelli finishing 6th, Jansen 9th.
After winning the 100 butterfly prelim earlier in the day with a time of 47.39,
Noah Reice(Wilmington, DE) one-upped himself in the finals with a new meet record time of 46.94. The time for Reice is the third fastest across all of Division III this year.
The 200 yard free was represented by
Grant Hudson(Peachtree City, GA) and
Patrick Young(Lucinda, PA) who qualified earlier in the day with Hudson missing the top prelim time by just .04 seconds. In the finals, Hudson took 4th, with Young grabbing 9th.
The 100 yard breast had three Bears in the finals:
John Kaleta(Morrow,, OH),
Matt Carper(Pittsburgh, PA), and
Blaise Minckler(Hilton Head Island, SC). Kaleta paced the crew in 5th with Minckler taking 9th, and Carper placing 10th.
The 100 yard backstroke may have been the most eventful of the day for Coast Guard. In the prelims,
Zach McGowen(Springfield, VA) and
Baylor Weiler(Lexington, KY) qualified along with
Andrew Carlson(Spring, TX) who broke the Academy record with a time of 49.82. The record Carlson broke was set last year by
Zach McGowen. In the finals later on, McGowen proceeded to break the record set previously in the day by Carlson in a 4th place finish time of 49.75. Carlson was just behind him in 5th with Weiler taking the 9th spot.
In the penultimate men's event of the night,
Colbrin Blanchette(Edwardsville, IL) took 8th place in the one meter diving finals.
The final event of the evening was the 200 yard medley relay and the Bears finished strong with a second place finish. The medley relay team of
Andrew Carlson,
Blaise Minckler,
Noah Reice, and
Zach McGowen finished just .09 behind MIT with a time of 1:30.16 in the relay.
The Bears will compete on the final day of the NEWMAC Championships tomorrow morning at MIT.
