NEW LONDON, Conn. --
Saturday, February 21st, afternoon Coast Guard men's lacrosse hosted Nichols College at Cadet Memorial Field. The Bears got their first win of the season with a final score of 14-5 and improve to 1-1 on the season. Â
The Bears controlled the game the entire afternoon starting out with 4 unanswered goals in the first quarter with 2 goals from sophomore attackman
Ezekiel Christian (Stonington, Conn.). He finished the game with 3 goals and 4 assists. Coast Guard also held Nichols scoreless in the first.Â
Coast Guard kept the scoring going strong in the second quarter with 2 more goals to strengthen their lead to 6-0. Nichols College got their first goal halfway through the second quarter by
Jack Campbell. Junior attackman
Eric Key (Clarksville, Md.) scored his third of the day to give the Bears their first man-up goal of the day. He finished the day with 6 goals. Coast Guard led 7-1 at the end of the first half. Â
The offense did not stop in the second half with the Bears scoring 2 more goals in the first 5 minutes of the third quarter. The Bison got their second goal of the day with Jonah Libby making it 9-2 in favor of Coast Guard. Sophomore midfielder
Ryder Bonser (Spring Branch, Tex.) scored his first goal of the day with just 33 seconds left in the third quarter to put the Bears up 10-2 going into the fourth. Â
An eventful fourth quarter did not change the inevitable outcome for the game. Coast Guard outscored Nichols 4-3 in the fourth to give the Bears their first win of the season with a final score of 14-5. Â
In goal for the Bears was junior
Brett Tobasky (Brookline, Mass.) who earned his first win of the season with 12 saves and two ground balls.
Men's lacrosse will be back in action next Saturday as they go on the road to Saratoga Springs, NY to face off against 2-0 Skidmore College at 1pm EST. Â
