SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. --
Saturday, February 28th, Coast Guard men's lacrosse traveled to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to play Skidmore College. The Bears would lose this contest to the Thoroughbreds with a final score of 10-5. Following this result, Coast Guard drops to 1-2 on the season, and Skidmore remain undefeated with 3 wins and 0 losses. Â
The Thoroughbreds scored the first goal of the day from
Joseph Killcommons with an assist by
Jake Weiner less than five minutes into the game. Skidmore would score two more unanswered goals including a goal from
Jonathan Byrne with 3 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Â
Skidmore continued their offensive dominance by scoring two more goals in the second quarter to put them up 5-0. Coast Guard finally found the back of the net with three seconds remaining in the first half scored by senior midfielder
Patrick Smith (Leesburg, Va.). He finished the day with two goals on only two shots. Â
Just over three minutes into the second half, the Bears cut the lead to 5-2 with a goal from senior defenseman
Frederick Wheaton (Attleboro, Mass.). This was his first goal since his freshman year when he scored twice vs Clark.
What seemed to be a competitive game again, ffell back out of hand with the Thoroughbreds scoring three more goals less than four minutes apart, giving Skidmore an 8-2 lead going into the fourth quarter. Â
Coast Guard made a goalie change to start the fourth quarter giving senior goalie
Dustin Miller (Tyler, Tex.) his first appearance of the season. Miller allowed just 2 goals in the 15 minutes he played with 3 saves. Starter
Brett Tobasky (Brookline, Mass.) made 12 saves on the day. The Bears scored three times in the fourth quarter but it was just too big of a lead to erase. Final score 10-5 in favor of Skidmore. Â
The Bears will be looking to bounce back as they will travel down the road to face off against 1-0 Connecticut College on Tuesday night, March 3rd at 7pm EST.Â
