NORTON, Mass. — The Coast Guard men's soccer team tied 1-1 thanks to an equalizer in the second half on the road Saturday afternoon, October 24th, at Wheaton College.

The Bears are now 7-5-3 overall this season and 2-2-2 in NEWMAC play. The Lyons are now 8-2-5 overall and 3-1-2 in NEWMAC.

Wheaton started off the game with heavy pressure on Coast Guard, managing to get 4 shots early in the first half, including two on goal. The Lyons found the back of the net first in this contest in the 27th minute.

The Bears weren't able to find too many chances in the first half, only having two shots on goal at the end of the first 45 minutes. The Lyons led 1-0 at halftime.

Coast Guard had an early shot early in the second half off the foot of Matthew Higbie (Colorado Springs, Col.) , but it missed wide to the left. Wheaton continued to create chances in the second half with three shots consecutively blocked by Coast Guard.

Then, in the 67th minute, Jack Lopez (Ponte Vendra Beach, Fla.) crossed in the ball, but the Wheaton goalkeeper could not hold on to it as James Von Dyl (San Diego, Calif.) pounced on the rebound to tie the game at 1-1. Both sides managed to get some quality opportunities to win the game, but this ended in a 1-1 draw. Bears keeper Samuel Linkous (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) made five saves in the tie, including two key stops in the 79th and 81st minutes.

The Bears have their last regular season home game this Wednesday, October 28th, as they will host NEWMAC opponent Springfield College. The Pride are just one point behind the Bears in the NEWMAC standings after a 1-1 tie today vs Clark. Kickoff Wednesday at Nitchman Field is scheduled for 6pm EST.
