U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's basketball senior
Luke Farrell (Ortley Beach, N.J.) became the 23rd player in program history to score 1,000 career points as the Bears fell to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rivals Springfield College, 81-93, on Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium.
Back-to-back losses for Coast Guard drops them to 6-13 on the season and 2-9 in the NEWMAC, while back-to-back wins improves Springfield's records to 8-12 and 6-5. The Pride will look to make it three consecutives victories on Wednesday, February 4th, when they host Worcester Polytechnic Institute (15-4, 8-2) for further NEWMAC play.
Farrell made his presence known on both ends of the court while in pursuit of his 1,000th, dropping a game-high 30 points while recording two blocks and three steals. The senior joined former teammate
Declan Rooney '25 on the list after Rooney scored his 1,000th last season, while the total was also the second 30-point game of his career.
Trevor Parks (Clearwater, Fla.) and
Elijah Parent (Bristol, Conn.) both joined their classmate as double-digit scorers, with Parks adding 18 and Parent adding 14 as both men shot 5-for-9 from the field. All of Parks' makes were from three, and he added three more from the line as he matched Farrell for a team-leading six rebounds, while Parent nabbed a steal. Freshman guard
Ashton Kendall (Baltimore, Md.) led all Bears in assists with three and
Jordan Frazer (Columbia, S.C.) picked up a pair of steals.
Springfield had five players in double-digits, the highest of whom was
Zachary Campbell with 16 points and three assists. Following him was
Xoren Livingston with 14, a team-high four assists, and a steal.
Josh Hartley led his team with nine rebounds while recording a block and was one of three from the Pride with two steals.
Coast Guard trailed at the halftime break, 44-45, after a physical first half featured both teams shooting over 43% from the field. The Bears cashed in on six of their 11 three-point attempts, and Farrell had scored 21 of the needed 26 for his 1,000th up to that point. The second half saw both teams go in opposite directions in terms of success from the floor, with Springfield's 61.3% over the final 20 minutes knocking out Coast Guard's 38.5%.
The Bears were outscored, 13-31, over the opening ten minutes of the half as the Pride built a 71-56 lead for their largest advantage of the game with 9:04 to play. Despite chipping away for the remainder of the game, Coast Guard was unable to get within ten points of their guests.

Bears men's basketball will look to bounce back on Wednesday the 4th when they travel to Babson College (12-6, 6-3) for a 7 PM ET fixture. The Beavers took a lopsided 41-89 result in the first match-up of the season, which saw Parent and Farrell lead Coast Guard in scoring with respective totals of 13 and 12.
