Bears unable to overcome first half deficit at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. –

Coast Guard fell on the road vs the Lyons by a score of 78-63, tonight marking the first time in exactly three years that Wheaton has beaten CGA in Norton. The victory improves Wheaton to 13-6, 6-4 NEWMAC. They will next host Emerson College on Saturday January 31st at 1:00 PM. 

Wheaton took charge early. They scored 10 of the first 12 points and extended their lead to as many as 22 in the first half. In that first half, the Bears shot just 29% from the field and 18.2% from three. The Lyons in turn were 58.1% from the field and 30.8% from three. That turned in the second half, the Bears improved to 41.4% from the field and 46.2% from three. 

The second half surge was led by senior forward Luke Farrell(Ortley, NJ). He scored 16 points in the second half to lead all scorers in the half. Trevor Parks(Clearwater, FL) thrice hit from beyond the arc for nine points in the half. Despite outscoring Wheaton in the second half, the Bears ultimately fell by a score of 78-63. 

Farrell, who led the Bears in the second half, led the team in scoring with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Behind him in scoring was Elijah Parent(Bristol, CT) with 14. Trevor Parks and Christian Rodgers(Linwood, NJ) were tied for second on the boards with five rebounds a piece while Jordan Frazer(Columbia, SC) and Walker Corbin(Weaverville, NC) tied for the team lead in assists with two. 

The loss drops Coast Guard to 6-12, 2-8 NEWMAC. The Bears will next host Springfield College at 1:00 PM on January 31st.
