NEW LONDON, Conn. --
In their second game of the New Year, Coast Guard was unable to get anything going on offense against a tough Babson College defense. For the Bears, the loss drops them to 4-8(0-4 NEWMAC). The two halves were nearly identical, with the Beavers out scoring CGA 45-20 in the first and 44-21 in the second. The win for Babson improves them to 7-5 on the season, 1-2 NEWMAC.Â
It was the Beaver defense that shined in their win. They held the Bears to season lows in both points(41) and three pointers made(6). Coast Guard shot 20.7% from beyond the arc and 25% from the field while Babson shot 46.7% from three and 50% from the field.Â
Despite the loss, the second half did provide a moment to remember for the Bears and the Coast Guard faithful. After a historic career as a football wideout at CGA, senior guard
Broock Desta(San Diego, CA), who joined the basketball team only weeks ago, made his college basketball debut. Desta, who was responsible for a whopping 210 points in his illustrious college football career, scored the first three points of his college basketball career by draining a corner three just minutes into entering the game.Â
The Bears had two men in double figures:
Elijah Parent(Bristol, CT) with 13 and
Luke Farrell(Ortley, NJ) with 12. Farrell led the squad with four blocks and was second in rebounds with five. The leading Bear rebounder with six was
Trevor Parks(Clearwater, FL) who also led in steals with three of the Bears five.Â
Both teams return to action with road games on Tuesday January 13th. Babson travels to Springfield for a 1 p.m. tipoff, while Coast Guard visits Clark at 7 p.m.
