WORCESTER, Mass. --
In a road matchup vs the reigning NEWMAC champion Clark Cougars, Coast Guard gave the them all that they could handle in a 83-75 game. The Clark victory improves them to 8-6, 3-2 NEWMAC. They will travel to Emerson College on Thursday January 15th for a 7:00 PM game vs the Lions.Â
It was a one man show that beat the Bears from the hands of
Aliaun Iscandari(Hawthorne, CA). The freshman scored 33 points, draining seven three pointers, with six assists, and eight blocks, all of which mark season highs.Â
Every time Clark appeared poised to take off, Coast Guard made certain their lead never got comfortable. After a back and forth first 10 minutes with three lead changes, Clark held a 16 point lead as the half went under six minutes. In danger of falling behind big, the Bears instead unleashed a 23-3 run to enter the second half trailing by just one. That run was catapulted by
Walker Corbin(Weaverville, NC) and
Trevor Parks(Clearwater, FL). Parks assisted Corbin on three pointers in three consecutive possessions. On their next possession, after Corbin came down with a board to get them the ball,
Jordan Frazer(Columbia, SC) found
Trevor Parks open for yet another three. Parks would get another on the next possession off a Corbin assist for a ridiculous 5th consecutive possession making a three pointer.Â
In the second half, senior
Elijah Parent(Bristol, CT) twice gave the Bears the lead and extended to a game high of five points with a made three pointer but Clark just kept bouncing back. A 12-2 run midway through the half gave the Cougars a 10 point lead that would later extend to as many as 13 on multiple occasions. Yet again, the Bears clawed back.
Elijah Parent cut the deficit to just five with under four remaining but a clutch three and six made free throws in the final minute sealed Clark the victory.Â
In a close game, the difference was in the turnovers. Coast Guard turned the ball over 24 times, leading to 22 Cougar points while Clark turned the ball over just eight times.
For the Bears, there were six men in double figures:
Ashton Kendall(Baltimore, MD)
 with 10,
Walker Corbin with 11,
Luke Farrell(Ortley, NJ) with 12, and
Elijah Parent,
Jordan Frazer, and
Trevor Parks each with 14. They shot 44% from three, making 11, four of which came from
Trevor Parks who also led the squad in assists with five.
The loss drops the Bears to 4-9(0-5 NEWMAC). They come back home to Alumni Gymnasium on Thursday vs #24 WPI at 7:00 PM.
