NEW LONDON, Conn. –
With just over eight minutes remaining in the first quarter, senior goalkeeper
Maici Mintchwarner(Cream Ridge, NJ) made what appeared to be a routine save for the Bears but the Coast Guard's bench explosion told a different story. For Mintchwarner, it was her 2nd save of the night and 280th of her career. Those 280 saves sets a new all-time record for the 11 year old women's lacrosse program. She passes 2021 graduate Mari Budri. On the game, Maici would make three saves in her three quarters played with freshman
Kailee Heron(West Islip, NY) taking over in goal in the fourth, making two saves.
The Bears would cruise to victory, jumping ahead early and winning by a final score of 18-6. For Mount Holyoke, the loss drops them to 3-9 on the season. They will be on the road again on Saturday April 12th to face Clark University.
Coast Guard jumped ahead from the start, scoring the first three goals and seven overall in the first quarter. Six different women scored in the first:
Kira Howard(Wilton, CT),
Aislinn Murray(Annapolis, MD),
Hannah Warnke(Lincoln, NE),
Abby McAllister(Pleasantville, NY), and
Caitlyn Coates(Hanover, PA) each scored once with senior
Laine Weber(Granite Bay, CA) scoring twice. Weber would also assist on a goal with McAllister assisting twice in the first. On the day they would lead the team in assists, Weber with three and McAllister with two.
The stellar senior
Laine Weber would lead in goals on the day as well with four. Just behind her was fellow senior
Kira Howard and junior
Abby McAllister.
The Bears offense would keep their foot on the gas for the remainder of the half, going into break up 11-3. They would add five more in the third to just one scored by the Lyons for a comfortable 16-4 lead going into the final frame. In the fourth,
Kira Howard would score two unassisted goals to seal the Bears 18-6 win.
On defense,
Lauren Henry(Monroe, CT) led the Bears with three caused turnovers. Behind were senior
Fiona McCartin(Centreville, MD) and reigning NEWMAC defender of the week
Rowan Walsh(Hampstead, MD) who each had two.
Isabella Judge(Buffalo, NY) led in ground balls with three.
Coast Guard dominated the draw control battle with a 18-9 margin. That was much due to dominance on the X from
Tylr Neely(Hillsborough, NJ),
Katie Kogler(Fallston, MD) and
Kira Howard.
The Bears victory brings them back to .500 at 5-5(3-3 NEWMAC). They will next be on the road to face the Emerson Lions, Saturday April 12th at 1:00 PM.
