Bears Swept by Vassar on the Road

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.  -  Coast Guard tennis suffered a 0-7 setback yesterday in non-conference action at Vassar College.

The Bears move to 1-9 on the season, while Vassar improves to 7-7. The Brewers look to make it three straight wins on April 12th with a Liberty League win over Ithaca College (5-6).

Vassar started the day taking the doubles point, winning the #3 and #2 matches before Coast Guard's top pair of sophomore Ben Bonetto (Bend, Oreg.) and junior captain Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) fought for a 9-7 tiebreaker to claim an exciting 7-6 win. Singles play saw the Bears fall in all matches by 2-0 decisions; Bonetto and fellow sophomore Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) dropped their respective second sets by scores of 2-6 and 3-6.

Bears tennis returns to action on April 9th for their annual rivalry match against Merchant Marine (2-2). Coast Guard is yet to lose in the series, holding a 13-0 all-time record over the Mariners. Last season's stand-off ended in a 9-0 victory that included Bonetto producing a dominant 6-0, 6-1 performance at #4 singles; Love earning a thrilling 6-3, 7-5 match at #5; and Reice picking up a 6-1, 6-0 win in his singles debut at #6.
