Bears win third straight with league victory over Clark

NEW LONDON, Conn. –

In heat of their conference season, Coast Guard defeated the Clark Cougars 12-5 at home. The loss drops Clark to 6-4(0-3 NEWMAC). The Cougars will host Springfield on Saturday April 5th at 7:00 PM in the Renny Classic at Clark.

Despite Clark keeping the score close for much of the game, Coast Guard never trailed. The Bears took the lead 1:30 into the game and would never relinquish it. As a team, Coast Guard led Clark in shots(55-35), Shots on goal(24-12), ground balls(25-15), and face-off wins(16-5). 

The Bears were led by familiar faces on offense with Ezekiel Christian(Stonington, CT), Ryan Hunter(Bethesda, MD), and Eric Key(Clarksville, MD) tied for the lead in points with four each. Key led in goals with three, Patrick Smith(Leesburg, VA) was just behind him with two, and seven other men each scored a goal. 

On defense, the tough play of Evan Granahan(Aldie, VA) led to two caused turnovers with six other Bears adding one for eight total on the team. Stellar long stick midfielder Oliver Bolton(Darien, CT) continued an excellent senior season with a team high six ground balls. In goal, Dustin Miller(Tyler, TX) gutted out the victory for his fifth win of the season(5-2). 

On the X, Coast Guard was again outstanding. As alluded to earlier, they 16 of the 21 faceoffs(.762). Mason Tucker(Alpharetta, GA) was 11-13, with fellow sophomore Bane Klinefelter(Kingwood, TX) making the most of his three opportunities going 3-3. As a team, the Coast Guard face-off currently ranks as the 15th best across all of Division III while Mason Tucker is 22nd in the nation in individual face-off win percentage. 

Coast Guard will look to keep rolling with a home date vs NEWMAC foe MIT next Saturday April 5th at 1:00 PM.
