Bears sing last in 14-9 victory over King’s Point

NEW LONDON, Conn. –

After falling to KP in 2023 and 2024, Coast Guard defeated the Mariners 14-9 to keep their hot streak(winning six of last seven) alive. For Merchant Marine, they have lost four straight and are now 3-4 on the season. They will next host Mount St. Mary Saturday March 29th at 2:00 PM.

Coast Guard took charge immediately in the game, scoring four goals to just one from KP in the first quarter. Senior Ryan Hunter(Bethesda, MD) scored the first goal of the game, followed by freshmen Ryder Bonser(Spring Branch, TX) and Ezekiel Christian(Stonington, CT) who scored twice. They added three more in the second from the sticks of Max Silver(Jupiter, FL), Jake Chambers(Annapolis, MD), and Eric Key(Clarksville, MD) to enter halftime with a 7-2 lead.

The second half started off hot for the Bears when defender Jamison Wildt(Arnold, MD) scored his first career goal.  In the third, each team thrived on the offensive side scoring a combined nine goals with CGA entering the final quarter with an 11-7 lead. Coast Guard would get a much needed cushion with goals by Nolan Grizzle(Severna Park, MD) and Eric Key to start the quarter and stretch the lead to six, ultimately winning by a score of 14-9.

The Bears were yet again led offensively by attacker Ezekiel Christian. The freshman from local Stonington, CT scored four goals and two assists, leading the team in both categories. Tied with Christian in assists with two was Max Silver

Again stellar on the X was sophomore Mason Tucker(Alpharetta, GA) who went 15-21. Abraham Al-Khalili(Haymarket, VA) went 4-6 in faceoffs for a team 70%(19-27) faceoff win percentage. Tucker also led CGA in ground balls with eight, followed by Wildt, Al-Khalili, and Ben Lewis(Portland, OR) who each had three or more. Eric Key had two caused turnovers and two goals for the Bears winning effort. In goal, Dustin Miller(Tyler, TX) made 11 saves.

For Coast Guard, the Bears improve to 6-2 on the season. They will next host NEWMAC foe Clark on Saturday March 29th at 3:00 PM.
