MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –
Going into day two of the regional tournament, CGA had all 10 of their wrestlers still alive in competition. It was just the third time in program history they brought 10 wrestlers into day two. Ultimately, four of those men would wind up punching their ticket to the national tournament.
As a team, Coast Guard finished in second place with 155 points, narrowly defeating Castleton who had 151.5.
133 pounder
Chase Randall(Spokane, WA) won his championship bout 4-1 by decision in the marquee matchup of the day. Randall who is currently ranked #1 in the nation met on the mat with
Peyton Ellis(Greenwood, WI) of Johnson & Wales who is ranked #2 in the nation. The two battled the distance with Randall finally edging ahead 4-1 in the final minute to clinch the victory.
The other victor for Coast Guard was 285 pounder
Carl DiGiorgio(Doylestown, PA) who won his championship match 8-6 by decision over Castleton. Both Randall and DiGiorgio are reigning All-Americans and will both have the opportunity to defend that status.
Also clinching a berth in two weeks in Providence were junior 157
Jacob Woodburn(Greensboro, NC) and sophomore 184
Gabriel Monroe(Kirkwood, NY). Monroe won his third place match 9-2 by decision over
