BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –
Despite a late comeback effort, Coast Guard was unable to overcome the play of the Bears of Bridgewater State in a 12-11 loss. Bridgewater State improves to 7-1 on the season with the win. They will look to stay hot at Emmanuel College Saturday March 22nd at 3:00 PM.
For both teams, the game was a tale of two halves. The first half was a high octane offensive clinic, with Bridgewater taking a two goal lead to half with the teams combining for 18 goals. In the second, the defenses locked in with just five combined goals the entire half.
Coast Guard took the first, and held the biggest lead of the day with a 3-0 early lead in the afternoon. Senior
Laine Weber(Granite Bay, CA) found the back of the net first, assisted by fellow senior
Caitlyn Coates(Hanover, PA). Weber and Coates would pace the CGA offense in points on the day with five and four respectively. Weber would assist
Isabella Judge(Buffalo, NY) on the next goal with the third scored by
Hannah Warnke(Lincoln, NE). Judge would score again in the first with
Katharine Rott(Severna Park, MD) scoring the fifth goal of the quarter for Coast Guard, leading to a 5-5 tie into the 2nd quarter.
Quarter number two started off just like the first did with the Bears scoring three unanswered goals.
Caitlyn Coates scored the first two before
Abby McAllister(Pleasantville, NY) scored on a free position shot. BSU would then rattle off five unanswered to take a two goal lead to the half.
Coast Guard would answer early on in the third quarter; cutting the lead in half when Coates and Weber again connected for a goal before
Isabella Judge scored her third goal of the day(on just three shots), assisted by Rileigh Neary(Holden, MA). After two consecutive Bridgewater goals; one to end the third quarter and one to begin the fourth, Coast Guard again trailed by two. With just under 1:30 remaining in the game,
Laine Weber scored a clutch goal assisted by
Abby McAllister but CGA was unable to find the back of the net again in the final 90 seconds.
Coast Guard will look to bounce back from their three game losing streak at MIT on Saturday March 22 at 12:00.
