Bears offense shines in season opener at SUNY Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. –

After a successful 2024 season, Coast Guard women's lacrosse has started their 2025 campaign on the right foot with a 20-4 victory over SUNY Maritime. SUNY Maritime falls to 0-1 to start their season. They will next travel to Ramapo on Saturday March 1st at 1:00 PM.

Two of Coast Guard's career leaders proved why they are already legends of the program in today's game. CGA's all-time leading goal scorer and points leader Caitlyn Coates(Hanover, PA) added to her goal record with a team high six more today on 10 shots. Tied with Coates in points with seven, was the Bears second all-time in points Abby McCallister(Pleasantville, NY) who had three goals and four assists.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never allowed Maritime an opportunity to crawl back into the game. Junior Hannah Warnke(Lincoln, NE), and Seniors Laine Weber(Granite Bay, CA) & Kira Howard(Wilton, CT) each scored multiple goals with Weber and Howard adding two assists. Along with the veterans scoring multiple goals was freshman Rileigh Leary(Holden, MA) who scored twice in her first career college lacrosse game. Leary also had four draw controls. Senior Katharine Rott(Severna Park, MD) also scored on a free position shot, the Bears only FPS opportunity of the day.

Standout junior defender Rowan Walsh(Hampstead, MD) and the aforementioned Laine Weber paced the Bears in caused turnovers with two each with Walsh also contributing two ground balls.

In goal, senior Maici Mintchwarner(Cream Ridge, NJ) had three saves in the victory for CGA with a .429 save percentage.
