NEW LONDON, Conn. - Coast Guard tennis was swept by Endicott, 7-0, in the Bears' home opener in Gregory Field House today. The Gulls improve to 1-2 as they look ahead to their next match-up on Saturday, March 1st, at Emerson (2-5).
In doubles, Coast Guard's top duo of Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) and Ben Bonetto (Bend, Oreg.) won 6-1 in the no. 1 match against local product George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.), but the Gulls bounced back with a 6-0 victory at no. 2. and took the deciding third game 6-4 to secure the doubles point.
In the top singles match of the day, Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) defeated Bonetto 3-0 (4-6, 6-3, 10-8). Bears freshman Anthony Gregoire (Hagatna, Guam) battled back after losing the first set in the no. 3 match against Ethan Hopman (Summit, N.J.), but ultimately lost the other three-setter of the day, 1-2 (1-6, 6-1, 6-10).
The Bears will look to bounce back next Saturday at home match against Trinity (Conn.).
