GORHAM, Maine —
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy wrestling team took on Southern Maine's Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday in dominant fashion, winning their third tournament of the season. The Bears had 12 reach the finals of their respective brackets and 28 total wrestlers achieve podium spots.
In the 125-pound bracket,
Kekoa Madayog (Rohnert Park, Calif.) continued his impressive freshman campaign by securing a runner-up finish, falling to Castleton's
Andrew Marchese by a 16-2 major decision.
Jackson Bauer (Southampton, N.Y.) was right behind him in third place, defeating RPI's
Sam Culp with an 8-0 major decision in the consolation bracket.
133 saw another Bear take second place after freshman
Marvin Armistead (Las Cruces, N.M.) was dealt a 17-0 tech fall by Southern Maine's
Jake Craig.
Dom Moyer (Milford, Pa.) and
Christian Belford (Edmond, Okla.) took a no contest after meeting each other for the third place match at 141.
Dan Williams (Wilmington, Del.) was runner-up at 149, losing a 4-1 decision to Castleton's
Joseph Kennedy.
Nicholas Sanders (Fredericksburg, Va.) took third place in the same bracket with a 9-6 decision win over Castleton's
Dominick LaPier.
Mike Edwards (Glenpool, Okla.) was the first winner of the day for the Bears with his 6-4 decision win in the 157 bracket over teammate
Kyle Csikari (Fredericksburg, Va.). Two more Bears met in the third-place bout, with
Jacob Woodburn (Greensboro, N.C.) prevailing over
Cael Finn (Simsbury, Conn.) after an 18-2 tech fall.
Landon Kearns was the next champ for Coast Guard, defeating fellow Bear
Thomas Rhodes (Last Forest Park, Wash.) at 165 with a fall in 41 seconds.
Mason Gourley (Clarion, Pa.) and
Ryan Boyer (Little Silver, N.J.) met in the 174 finals and opted for a no-contest, and
Gabriel Monroe (Kirkwood, N.Y.) maintained his great form as of late with another bracket win at 184, this time over Castleton's
Desmond McLaughlin.
Brendan Raley (Annandale, Va.) was the man in third place at 197 with his 16-1 tech fall win over Castleton's
Logan Frank.
Carl DiGiorgio (Doylestown, Pa.) and
Lincoln Bibla (Mountain Top, Pa.) ended the day with a no contest after both made the finals for the heavyweight bracket.
Bears wrestling will be in action one more time before winter break, hosting their archrivals from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (2-1) for the annual dual. Coast Guard sang last in last year's meeting at Kings Point after a dominant 35-18 victory.
