Bears men dominate at Springfield dual meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –

For the second time in as many weeks, Coast Guard men's swimming gave a dominant performance in the pool. This week, with two league wins over Springfield(191-105) and Wheaton(184-95). Springfield College is 0-3 after narrowly being defeated by Wheaton today. Next Saturday they will travel to Williamstown, Massachusetts to face off with Williams and Wesleyan. Wheaton College is 2-2, they will travel to Lewiston, Maine next Saturday for a 1:00 PM dual with Bates.

In relays, the team of Baylor Weiler(Lexington, KY), Blaise Minckler(Hilton Head Island, NC), Charles Gaines(Macon, GA), and Noah Reice(Wilmington, DE) took first in the 400 medley at 3:28.43 while Troy Lee(Orange, CA), Kacper Buniowski(Bridgewater, VA), Zach McGowen(Springfield, VA), and Andrew Carlson(Spring, TX) took second in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:11.79. 

Individually, the Bears placed at or towards the top of nearly every event.

Junior Noah Reice won the 50 yard freestyle sprint with a time of 21.44, and the 100 yard free with a time of 47.13, while Charles Gaines won the 100 butterfly in dominant fashion with a time of 52.04. 

In the 100 yard breaststroke, the Bears held all three of the top podium spots with Blaise Minckler, John Kaleta(Morrow, OH), and Matt Carper(Pittsburgh, PA). Minckler also took the top spot in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:55.41. 

CGA swept the 200 yard breaststroke as well with Patrick Young(Lucinda, PA), John Kaleta, and Leon Zhang(Cary, NC) as the top three.

The men nearly swept the 200 yard butterfly as well, with Jinnosuke Suzuki(Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) coming in first, Eliot Maravich in second, Spencer Simon(Lafayette, LA) in fourth, and Conner Dobie(Covington, LA) in fifth.

Jordan Jansen(Tampa, FL) was pure dominance in the 200 yard IM. The junior won the event by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:00.96. Jansen also placed in the 1000 yard free, with a fourth place finish behind teammate Eliot Maravich who placed second.

The Bears took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in both the 200 yard free and 100 yard backstroke with Luke Giguere(Belchertown, MA), Troy Lee, and Grant Hudson(Peachtree City, GA) in the 200 free and 
Baylor Weiler, Zach McGowen, and Andrew Carlson in the 100 back. In the 200 yard backstroke, Weiler again took the top spot with McGowen and Carlson placing third and fourth.

The Coast Guard wins improve them to 5-0 to start the season. They will next travel to Brandeis College on Saturday November 22nd at 11:00 AM.
