MARL?BOROUGH, Mass. —
United States Coast Guard Academy cadet-athletes
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) and
Jay Pawloski (St. Leonard, Md.) have been recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as two of ten "Swimmers to Watch" from around the league for the upcoming men's swimming & diving season, as announced yesterday in a release by the conference.
Reice is set to enter his senior year as the defending NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Year. He won three individual titles at last season's NEWMAC Championships, touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, and 50-yard freestyle. Reice's 100 fly time of 46.94 was a new record for the conference meet. Reice also earned Second Team All-Conference distinction as part of the Bears' 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay. He went on to be Coast Guard's lone representative at the NCAA Division III Championships, where he earned All-America honors by placing fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 200 fly.
Pawloski returns for his sophomore year following a strong rookie season that culminated a Second Team All-NEWMAC nod in the 1650-yard freestyle. He totaled 41 individual points for the Bears at NEWMAC Championships, and also turned in a seventh-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle and a 17th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle alongside his runner-up finish. Pawloski also helped the Bears turn in a fourth-place effort in the 800-yard freestyle relay as the third leg of the quartet.
