The U.S. Coast Guard Academy women's soccer team's 2025 campaign officially ended on Tuesday with a 2-4 loss to hosts Springfield in the First Round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Scoring both goals in the game were senior
Mia Forti (Madison, Conn.) whose brace follows a Senior Day hat trick versus Smith College just a few days prior.
Kaitlyn Suller also recorded a brace for the Pride, scoring the opening goal of the match in the 5th minute before Forti tied it up in the 20th. Suller put another score in the back of the net 38th to put Springfield back up, 2-1, going into halftime.
Jessica Perry scored Springfield's third goal in the 49th minute, but Forti brought it back within one with another solo goal in the 63rd before Kayla McGrath become the third player to get on the board for the Pride, with her goal in the 69th finally putting it out of reach.
Springfield held a 22-11 advantage in shots and a 13-8 lead in shots on goal. Forti led the Bears with four each in both regards, while the Pride had the trio of Suller, Perry, and
Meredith Healy try five times with differing results — Healy was on-target four times, Suller had three on goal, and Perry's score was the only one within the frame. Also recording multiple shot attempts for the Bears was
Meren Zelliger (Farmington, Maine), who had two tries in the game.
The two sides were most even in corner kicks, winning two each, and fouls, with Coast Guard getting six whistles to Springfield's five. Mairead Marsden recorded six saves on the way to the win, while
Julia Little (Pensacola, Fla.) capped her season with a career-high nine saves amid the onslaught.
The game was the last in the collegiate careers of the Bears' senior core — Forti, fellow senior captain
