WALTHAM, Mass. —
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's swimming & diving team had another day at the office on Saturday against Brandeis University, defeating the Judges with a score of 145-71. The two teams had already met once this season at Worcester Polytechnic's quad meet, which Brandeis also fell in by a 212-70 margin.
Coast Guard improves to 6-0, while the Judges move to 1-5. Brandeis will look to bounce back tomorrow, November 23rd at Tufts University (2-1).
The Bears were masterful all day, winning all races but three. The team of
Baylor Weiler (Lexington, Ky.),
Blaise Minckler (Hilton Head Island, S.C.),
Charles Gaines (Macon, Ga.), and
Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) started it all off with a 1:37 win in the 200 Medley Relay. Reice also picked up an individual win, taking the 200 Fly in 1:59.
Zach McGowen (Springfield, Va.) kept it going with his 50 Free win in 22.05, with
AJ Buzzelli (Acworth, Ga.) following with a 4:27 victory in the 400 IM.
Colbrin Blanchette (Edwardsville, Ill.) made the diving break worthwhile by taking first place on the 1-meter board, scoring 210.97.
Andrew Carlson (Spring, Tex.) had a close call in the 200 Back, with his winning time of 1:59.90 being just 0.15 seconds faster than Brandeis'
Riley Pasicaran.
Jinnosuke Suzuki (Saipan, N.M.I.) also notched a close win in the 500 Free, with his time of 5:01.43 beating out teammate
Luke Giguere (Belchertown, Mass.) by 0.09 seconds.
Matt Carper (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the individual wins with a 2:16 showing in the 200 Breast before the team McGowen, Gaines, Giguere, and Reice swam 1:28.37 to win the final event of the day, the 200 Free Relay. Their win was close as well, being just 0.22 seconds faster than Brandeis' crew of
Solomon Harris,
Eric Xiao,
Ben Lee, and
Peter Mou.
Bears' men's swim & dive will have next week off due to Thanksgiving, but they'll be back at it again the following weekend in a tri-meet at Connecticut College (1-0) with Amherst College (1-1). Amherst dropped down to 20th in the most recent College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll, released on November 14th.
