MEDFORD, Mass. —
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy tennis team was represented by three cadet-athletes at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Fall Regional Championships, hosted this year by Tufts University.
Ben Bonetto (Bend, Oreg.) and
Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) competed together in the doubles bracket, while Bonetto and
Anthony Gregoire (Hagatna, Guam) both saw singles action. Coast Guard was defeated in all three of their opening round matches, ending their time at the tournament.
Bonetto and Love bowed out in the doubles bracket's Round of 48 after a 8-4 defeat at the hands of Babson College duo
Louis Bourn and
Maxim Zlobinsky. Gregoire was defeated, 2-0 (6-1, 6-1) in the first singles match of his sophomore campaign by Bowdoin College freshman
Simon Catanzaro, while Bonetto also fell by sweep (6-1, 6-2) by the host institution's Bulgarian senior
Alex Ganchev.
Bears tennis will see some more action this fall in a week's time when they head up to Springfield College for the Pride's yearly exhibition tournament.
