After defeating Mitchell 3-0 yesterday, Coast Guard again won by way of a sweep over Roger Williams tonight(25-22, 25-22, 25-18). The 6-6 RWU Hawks will host a Tri match tomorrow with opponents UMass Dartmouth and Framingham State.
In set one, CGA capitalized on Roger Williams 12 errors and won 25-22. The second set, again 25-22, was a clean, back and forth affair. Despite holding the lead from 2-1 throughout the entire set, Coast Guard had to fend off several Roger Williams comeback attempts.Â
In set three, the Bears earned their first comfortable victory of the evening in a 25-18, match clinching set win. The victory came on back to back kills from senior hitter Shannon Shaw(Torrance, CA) who got her 13th and 14th kills on the evening to seal the deal. Her 14 kills led all Coast Guard players and tied a personal season high. Also in double digits for CGA were Allie Wildsmith(Bainbridge Island, WA) and Amelia Matson(Stafford, VA) with 10 each.Â
Sophia Rosenberg(Lebanon, PA) again topped her previous career assist record with a 33 assist performance tonight. Rosenberg also rallied three blocks which tied teammate Eloise Shirley(Burke, VA) for most in the match. In a true all around effort, Rosenberg had 10 digs as well. Those 10 digs tied teammate Laila Baameur(Bakersfield, CA) and trailed only Kaela France(Calhan, CO) who had 23.
The 9-4 Bears will start NEWMAC play Tuesday September 24th at 6:00 PM with a road match vs the #8 team in the country, the MIT Engineers.
