NEW LONDON, Conn. - Men's Lacrosse hosted Emerson in its final home game of the season, falling to the Lions in overtime with a final score of 17-16.
CGA put up the first goal of the game just 40 seconds in, scored by
Patrick Smith. The Lions tied it up just about two minutes later before the Bears took the lead once again, this time the goal scored by
Ryan Hunter. The first quarter continued to be a show of Coast Guard taking the lead and Emerson tying it up.Â
The opening 15 came to a close with the game tied at four.
Quarter two began with a Bears goal by
Eric Key to put them up, 5-4.
Mason LaForte added another just a minute later, giving the Bears their biggest lead of the game thus far. Emerson got one back to bring Coast Guard's lead back to one with just over eight remaining in the half.Â
At 6:16, the game was tied up again, this time at six. The tie didn't last long as the Bears got three from
Noah Heller in a span of 40 seconds. CGA now had its largest lead, which continued to grow as
Eric Key put the Bears up, 10-6, with just over four left.Â
Despite Emerson getting two more before the end of the half, Coast Guard went into the break leading, 10-8.Â
Just 26 seconds into the second half, the Bears scored twice, the first coming from
Jake Chambers and the second by
Wyatt Rumpf.Â
The Lions got their first goal of the second half with just over 12 left in the third, the Bears still leading by three. Coast Guard's lead was cut to two as Emerson inched closer with another goal two minutes later. The Lions scored again, but the Bears quickly answered with a goal of their own by Hunter, keeping their lead at two.Â
Two more goals by Emerson tied the game up at 13 with just under two minutes to go in the third quarter.Â
The Bears regained the lead with 14 seconds left as Hunter found the back of the net to put them up, 14-13, into the final 15.
Quarter four, the Lions tied it up at 14 with 10:15 left to go in the game. A little over a minute later, the Bears took the lead back with off of Hunter's fourth goal. 3:40 left to go, Emerson tied it up at 15. With a little over two minutes to go in the game, the Bears found themselves down for the first time as the Lions took a 16-15 lead.Â
With 15 seconds left in the game, Chambers ran the length of the field to score and tie it up at 16, forcing the game into overtime. With less than 30 seconds in OT, Emerson scored, Coast Guard falling, 17-16.
Hunter led the bears in scoring with five, followed by Heller with three.
Ian Feely, LaForte and
Jamison Wildt all had two assists for CGA.
Dustin Miller recorded six save, followed by
Matt Reheuser with four.
Coast Guard will play at Babson on April 27th at 1 PM.
