MEDFORD, Mass. - The Coast Guard Academy rowing team returned to Medford, MA. This time for a match race with Colby for the men's 1V and 2V and for a match race with the UMASS freshman eight for our 3V.
The day offered much better conditions than last week.
The varsity continues to come together and again had their best race so far this season. CGA and Colby were in a very tight race as they came through the "S" turn. After coming out into the last ½ of the race, the Bears were able to press our advantage and moved ahead to win by 4.6 seconds.
In the 2V, Colby turned the tide on us and after another tight race through the first thousand they pulled ahead, ultimately winning by five seconds. However, there were several real positives to take out of this race as our 2V was a minute faster this week than last week on the same course. The improved conditions accounted for some of this (I would estimate about 20 to 30 seconds), but the changes made this week seemed to have a positive impact.
Colby did not have a 3V, but we were able to race with the UMASS freshman eight. Racing in a new lineup the crew came together well and was able to get the lead coming through the ½ point and expand it to an eight second victory.
CGA men's rowing is off next week and then it is up to Worcester for a matchup with WPI and Boston College on the 27th of April. The following week we will be back in Worcester for the New England Championships on 4 May.
