NEW LONDON, Conn. - Men's Lacrosse hosted Springfield, falling to the Pride despite a late comeback push, 15-11.
The opening quarter, the Bears found themselves down 3-0 with just over five minutes to go. With 2:05 left on the clock, CGA got its first goal of the game, scored by
Tyson Fenn, assisted by
Nick Butler.Â
Springfield got the opening goal of the second quarter, but Coast Guard began to cut into the lead before jumping in front for the first time.
Noah Heller cut the lead in half,
Ryan Hunter brought CGA within one,
Patrick Smith tied it at four, followed by Heller with his second goal, giving the Bears the lead.Â
CGA held the lead for two minutes before Springfield scored a the buzzer, making the score 6-5 heading into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Coast Guard hit a slump, as Springfield four within the first minute and a half. The Bears got one back by Hunter before the Pride scored four more. CGA hit the final two goals of the third by
Ian Feely and Hunter. Heading into the last quarter, Coast Guard was trailing, 14-8.
The final 15, the Bears got the first goal, scored by Feely and assisted by
Eric Key. Three and a half minutes later, Hunter scored to bring the score to 14-10. Key followed it up about 35 seconds later to bring the Bears within three. Springfield got one back with just under two and a half to go in the game. The Bears put up a good fight, but closed it out, 15-11.
Hunter led the Bears in goals with four, followed by Feely and Heller with two.
Mason LaForte led in assists with two.
Matt Reheuser recorded six saves for the Bears, followed by
Dustin Miller with five.Â
Coast Guard will next play at Conn College on April 16 at 6 PM.
