Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - Softball hosted Clark in a midweek conference match up, taking both games from the Cougars and extending their win streak to five.
In game one, the Bears jumped up by as much as 10 and ultimately downed the Cougars, 14-6 in six innings.Â
Clark scored first in the top of the opening inning with two runs. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Coast Guard put up five runs to answer back.
Isabelle Shroyer started it off for the Bears with an RBI single. Later on in the inning, with the bases loaded,
Bridget Bartz walked to tie it up at two. Still with the bases loaded,
Emma Behel singled to give CGA the lead. With three on,
Veronica Krystofik was hit by a pitch, adding to the lead, followed by
Natalie Beck bringing in the fifth run.
Neither team added on in the second, but the Bears struck again in the bottom of the third with four runs.Â
Behel hit another single for an RBI, followed by
Christine Carey making contact to score a run, an RBIÂ single by
Abriana Schmutz and an RBI double by
Lillia Farlow. At the end of three, CGA was up, 9-2.
The Bears continued to add on in the next inning with three singles, hit by
Natalie Beck, Carey and Schmutz, bringing in three more runs.
Clark attempted a comeback in the top of the fifth, plating three runs to make it 12-6. Coast Guard got one back in the home half off a single by Krystofik to go back up by seven.
Bottom of the sixth, Shroyer doubled to bring in CGA's eighth run and close out the game at 14-6.
Shroyer went 3-5 at the plate with two RBIs, while recording three strikeouts in the circle. Carey and Schmutz were 2-5 with two RBIs a piece. Behel and Beck went 2-4 with two RBIs.Â
Game two was closer, with the Bears getting the walk-off run to take the 5-4 win.
Coast Guard jumped ahead early on with a run in the bottom of the first off a single by Shroyer. Clark battled back with a run of its own in the top of the first before taking the lead in the top of the fourth.
The Bears jumped in front again in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run inning. Beck, Schmutz and Farlow all contributed to the Bears going up 4-2, each recording and RBI.
Clark rallied in the next half inning to tie it up at four.
Into the home half of the seventh. with a runner on, Shroyer singled to bring in the winning run, taking both games of the DH.
Shroyer was 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Schmutz was also 2-4, recording one RBI.
Dana Walker had seven strikeouts in the circle for the Bears.
Coast Guard now stands at 5-1 in conference play. The next set of games will be at Wellesley on April 12th at 3 PM & 5 PM.
