The Coast Guard Academy women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Hartford 15-3 in a non conference matchup. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-4 this season. They will look for their first win in a home game vs FDU-Florham at 1pm on Tuesday.
Coast Guard dominated on both sides of the field for the entirety of the game, never allowing the Hawks to threaten. They led in shots(45-14), shots on goal(32-9), clear percentage(87-72), ground balls(11-10), and draw controls(14-7). They also outscored Hartford in each quarter.
The Bears victory improves their record to 5-1. The dominant victory saw four players with numerous goals.
Sarah Skurat and
Caitlyn Coates led the way with four goals each, while
Addy Bass and Abby McCallister each added two goals. Coates also led the way in assists with two. Defender
Mia Becker caused a game high five turnovers while also leading all players with five draw controls. Sophomore midfielder
Hannah Warnke scored her first goal of the season on a rocket into the back of the net in the 2nd half.
The CGA defense was dominant, forcing three shot clock violations and only allowing the Hawks nine shots on goal to the Bears 32. Junior goalkeeper
Maici Mintchwarner earned her 4th win of the year allowing just one goal with two saves.
Devon McCue added four saves in the 2nd half.Â
The red hot Bears will open up conference play next Saturday March 16th at 12pm with a home game vs 1-1 Babson.
