Softball Splits Conference Opener With Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Softball opened up conference play on the road, splitting the day with the Beavers after falling in the first game and coming out on top in the second.

Game one ended with the Bears falling 4-1.

Babson struck early, putting up the first run in the bottom of the first. They added one more in the home half of the third and two more in the fourth.

CGA got its lone run in the top of seventh when Julia Breidenthal singled to bring in Christine Carey.

Isabelle Shroyer recorded three strikeouts in the circle for the Bears.

Game two, Coast Guard redeemed themselves to take down Babson, 4-3.

It was a defensive battle through four and a half as neither team was able to bring runs in until the bottom of the fifth. Babson went up first with two runs. One more came in for the Beavers in the bottom of the sixth.

Into the top of the seventh, this time the Bears were able to complete the comeback, putting up all four runs to top the Beavers.

Shroyer got it going for the Bears as she singled to get on base, followed by Breidenthal also with a single. With two on, Lillia Farlow doubled to bring them both home, putting CGA within one. Later on, Emma Behel tied the game with an RBI single. Carey then got an RBI of her own, giving Coast Guard the lead.

Only four batters were seen in the bottom of the seventh as the Bears held the Beavers off for the win.

Dana Walker got the win and recorded four strikeouts.

Coast Guard will next play at Mitchell on April 3rd in a DH beginning at 3 PM.
