Bears Tally 20 Runs in Wins Over Emerson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. - Softball hosted Emerson in its home opener, shutting out the Lions in both games and tallying 20 total runs between the two.

Game one was dominated by the Bears as they put up 16 runs for the 16-0 victory. 

CGA put up at least two runs in each of the four innings, with eight different Bears getting at least one hit. 

Julia Breidenthal got the day rolling with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly by Lillia Farlow to put Coast Guard up 2-0 at the end of one. In the bottom of the second, Christine Carey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in another run. Two batters later, Isabelle Shroyer made contact to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.

The game was busted open in the bottom of the third as CGA put up six runs and matched it in the bottom of the fourth. 

Carey went 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs, Abriana Schmutz was 2-3 with three RBIs and Shroyer also added three RBIs with one hit. Breidenthal went 3-4 with two RBIs, Emma Behel also recording two RBIs with a hit. Farlow and Natalie Beck each had a hit and an RBI.

In the circle, Shroyer pitched a shutout with one shrike out and only allowed three hits from Emerson. 

Game two was a slower start, but Coast Guard still came out on top, downing Emerson, ...

The Bears opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third when Breidenthal doubled to bring in Farlow. Next up, Shroyer singled to bring another acrosse, making it 2-0 heading into the fourth. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Breidenthal sent one out to right field, allowing Schmutz to come home. Into the sixth inning, Coast Guard was leading, 3-0. 

Emerson got its first runs of the day in the top of the sixth, a three-run home run tying up the game. 

CGA regained the lead in the home half as Farlow launched an RBI double for the Bears to go up, 4-3. 

Top of the seventh, the Bears shut down the Lions in three batters, closing it out at 4-3. 

Shroyer went 3-4 at the plate in game two with an RBI. Breidenthal had two RBIs with one hit. Farlow had one RBI with one hit.

Dana Walker took the win and recorded six strikeouts.

Coast Guard will host Clark on April 10th in a DH starting at 3 PM.
